LOVE AT FIRST TOUCH?

By Syamilah Maricar

Without a doubt, you would see countless of people regardless of age or gender owing a particular devise which is known as the ultimate phone, the iPhone. What so unique about an iPhone? Is it love at first touch?

Well, if you were to break it down you’d recognize the advantages of owning an iPhone. Firstly, it allows easy excess to the internet and over a million applications can be installed into the phone. There are a variety of applications. From multimedia to news and even entertainment. Such applications provide convenience to the user. An example would be the application which can tell you the timing of the bus or even enables you to navigate your way to your desired destination. Cool right? However, these are just some good points which I’ve highlighted. Now here comes the bad points.

You’re paying almost $500 for a phone which can’t even allow you to have a custom ringtone? Even an old Nokia phone can do that. Another setback would be the 2 mega pixel camera. Such a low-quality camera for such a sumptuous phone? Now you might think I’m being petty and only observing the extrinsic parts of the phone which to some may not even be important. Well folks, it’s part of the phone specification isn’t it?

Well to sum it up, I’ll say that while Apple’s iPhone has become one of the most popular products in recent years there are some downfalls to the product and people turn to jail-breaking because there are limitations to the iPhone and the application store offerings.

On the iPhone, Apple restricts some basic abilities that other cell phones offer as a standard, including recording video, custom ringtones, photo zoom and the ability to change the look and feel (including icons). Jail-breaking the iPhone bypasses these limitations and allows users to take advantage of third-party apps.

Hence, given the deficits of an iPhone, why would one succumb their old handset for this new device? Is it worth the cost? Well, maybe only the ‘tech-savvy’ would know. Or maybe it’s just the trend to own one. @
